A resolution to the Democratic National Council to increase pressure on Bush and expand anti-war debate democrats.com "Rep. Jesse L. Jackson, Jr. (D-IL-2), and Dr. James Zogby, President of the Arab American Institute, today announced that on Friday when the DNC meets, they will introduce a resolution on Iraq. Rep. Jackson said, 'There is a reason why the American people and most other people in the world strongly support making Saddam Hussein get rid of his weapons of mass destruction, but do not support a war against Iraq at this time - not to mention a pre-emptive U.S.-led war with Iraq apart from a UN Security Council Resolution. It doesn't meet the historic criteria of a 'just war.' The world, through the UN, should keep the pressure on Iraq to adhere to UN Resolution 1441 and allow enough time for the inspectors to do their assigned job.

Last week I learned that hundreds of American citizens are sending calls and letters to the Permanent Missions of France and Germany to the United Nations praising them for their resistance to a unilateral entry into Iraq. They are urging these Ambassadors to vote against the latest US effort to get approval for a quick effort before the inspections have been completed. It is my experience that Missions are most open to faxes. Thanks, Martha

USAforICC.org calls for letters to Congress and the Media
Washington, DC - From February 3-7, nations of the world will participate in the historic, groundbreaking election of judges to the new International Criminal Court (ICC) at the Assembly of States Parties meeting at the UN in New York. Colin Powell's speech to the UN Security Council on February 5th coincides with this historic election. As Powell takes his army of diplomats to the UN on Wednesday to try to convince the nations of the world to wage war on Iraq, the American seats in the ICC negotiations will remain empty. For the first time, no U.S. candidate has been presented for election to an international court, and American influence is not being brought to bear on the elections.
USAforICC.org is disappointed by the U.S. failure to engage in the process of international law through the ICC, even as a non-party. The United States' refusal to even observe the birth of the greatest human rights institution of the 21st Century is a disgrace to the legacy of American leadership on international prosecution of war criminals, and undermines our standing in the world community. USAforICC.org believes that this refusal to constructively engage the ICC diminishes our national security.
Take action now! USAforICC.org calls for all people interested in justice through institutions of international law to let your voices be heard. Send a message to your representatives in Congress atUSAfor ICC. Then go to www.USAforICC.org and click on "Contact the Media" to get the message out to the masses. As Colin Powell heads to New York this week, USAforICC.org calls for the Bush Administration to re-think their brand of "American Justice" by embracing international justice through the International Criminal Court.

CALL THE WHITE HOUSE: POLL ON IRAQ WAR
The Bush White House has an "opinion" line for you to call to say whether you oppose or approve of the proposed war in Iraq, or any other comment you wish to make. The line accepts calls from 9-5 EST., Monday thru Friday at 202-456-1111. A machine will detain you for a moment and then a pleasant live operator will thank you for saying "I oppose" or "I approve." Note that the weekends are closed for calls. The president has said that he wants to know what the American people are thinking. Let him know.
