CIA says Syria threat exaggerated by BUsh
"WASHINGTON - In a new dispute over interpreting intelligence data, the CIA and other agencies objected vigorously to a Bush administration assessment of the threat of Syria's weapons of mass destruction that was to be presented Tuesday on Capitol Hill. After the objections, the planned testimony by Undersecretary of State John R. Bolton, a leading administration hawk, was delayed until September."

t r u t h o u t - Post-War, The Tone Has Changed
And doubt begins to sharpen about the United States' post- September 11 2001 diplomatic approach, composed of unilateral decisions, defiance with regard to the UN, and relative indifference in the approach to its allies. The Senate calls on Mr. Bush to urgently solicit the UN and NATO's help in Iraq. Mr. Rumsfeld has just conceded that he wouldn't refuse a hand from the Germans and the French (unlikely). Some ask: wouldn't the post war have been easier to manage politically if the coalition forces had clearly been under the UN standard? In the unsafe and poorly lit suburbs of Baghdad, the need for multilateralism is being reborn.

UK has shown no proof Iraq sought uranium-diplomat
A diplomat close to the U.N's nuclear watchdog said on Thursday Britain has never provided evidence to back up Prime Minister Tony Blair's continued insistence that Iraq tried to buy uranium from Africa.

Announcing the Baghdad-based International Occupation Watch Center

Occupationwatch.org

Cognizant of the current lack of information about Iraq and knowing that Iraq will receive increasingly less attention as media sources abandon the country for the newest "hot spot," an international coalition of peace and justice groups is organizing the Baghdad-based International Occupation Watch Center. The Center will function under the auspices of United for Peace and Justice (www.unitedforpeace.org), a U.S. anti-war coalition with more than 600 member groups, with participation from a diversity of international groups including Focus on the Global South, Iraqi Democrats Against Occupation, and members of the World Social Forum.

BBC ramps up WMD row

"Reporting for Today, Mr Marr said: "The assumption is that Saddam Hussein for whatever reason destroyed them or hid them [WMD] beyond finding before the war started. And there's no doubt also in their minds that they will turn up interviews with scientists, paper documentation and so on. But nobody's been killed by paper documentation ever, and it does change the nature of things."
