Jun 5, 2004

June 24, 2004,

UN Secretary General Kofi Annan will chair the “Global Compact Leaders Summit” at United Nations headquarters in New York. The Global Compact claims to bring corporations together with the UN to promote “responsible corporate citizenship” based on nine principles. But without any enforcement provisions, the Global Compact provides little but a public relations cover for global corporate malefactors. On the day before the Global Compact summit, an international group of NGOs will hold a “Counter-Summit,” to critique the Compact and propose alternatives for real corporate accountability.
