The WHO Office at the United Nations in New York cordially invites you, your colleagues and NGOs interested in public health to a World Health Day observance on Monday, 10 April in Conference Room 1 at the United Nations in New York. We are organizing a briefing about the importance of the global health workforce, the crisis it is facing, and some solutions to these problems, i.e. innovative and effective ways to educate, suport and manage the health workforce, and encourage private-public partnerships. The programme begins with a film showing from 10:00-10:15 a.m.. The briefings will follow; then a Q&A at 12:15 p.m. Copies of the Executive Summary of the 2006 World Health Report will be distributed.
In recent years, WHO and its partners have moved health workforce issues up the political agenda. To give further momentum to efforts in this area, World Health Day 2006, and the World Health Report 2006 have been focused around the key theme of "Working Together for Health". We hope that this will encourage all stakeholders - policy makers, international donors, politicians, health professionals, academia, civil society, faith-based organizations, the media - to unite and work together to strengthen the health workforce.
To accept, please have everyone interested RSVP by Monday, 3 April 2006 to verano@un.org, (212) 963-6000 or (212) 9636004/5. For those who don't have it, a UN security pass can be obtained on Monday 10 April at the World Health Day registration desk, United Nations Public Lobby on First Avenue and 46th Street, New York City. Registration begins at 9:15 a.m.
We would be grateful if you could publicize the event to NGOs in your list and we look forward to having everyone interested participate.
